Irish Whiskey Dinner: Final Lineup (And a Challenge!!)

While I’m staying home with a sick kiddo today, Brad and I were able to look over the final tasting order and whiskey itinerary for next Thursday (March 16th’s) Irish whiskey extravaganza, courtesy of our friends at Whiskey University. I’ve gotta say, I’ve done some pretty solid Irish whiskey dinners/presentations in the past, but looking at the range and quality of what we’re going to be tasting here (and getting to benefit from Brad’s expertise), this one should be something special. Not only do we have a fantastic representation of the breadth of Irish whiskies available today, several aren’t available anywhere else here in Columbia. Want more? Oh, there’s more. But first, let’s take a look at what we’re going to be tasting for sure…

Glendalough “Mountain Strength” Poitin (Unaged, “Irish Moonshine”)

Kilbeggan Single Grain Irish Whiskey

Bushmills 12-Year-Old Irish Single Malt Whiskey

Dingle Single Malt Irish Whiskey (Batch no. 4)

Connemara Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey

Busker Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Redbreast 12-Year-Old Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Tullamore D.E.W. 12-Year-Old Blended Irish Whiskey

Bushmills Black Bush Blended Irish Whiskey

Jameson Black Barrel Blended Irish Whiskey

Each of these whiskies retails from the mid thirty-dollar range well up into the mid sixty-dollar range, and we’ll be sampling eleven of them, plus enjoying a light meal of 100% traditional Irish soda bread and a selection of Irish cheeses, beef-and-stout Irish stew, my Hiberno-American take on colcannon, and a tasty bread pudding with whiskey caramel sauce. All for $50/ticket (plus the small ‘convenience’ charge on Eventbrite).

That’s already a pretty stupid-good deal, right? Let’s up the ante, shall we? We’re at 23 guests signed up now out of our 30 available slots or our 32 “the room can’t handle anymore overflow” maximum capacity. If we end up getting to 30 or more guests for this event (like we typically do for Brad’s talks) we’re gonna add an additional whiskey to taste (one of the following two):

Waterford Single Malt Single-Farm Dunbell 1.1 (never before for sale locally)

2022 Middleton Very Rare Vintage Release (well over $200 retail)

How’s that for incentive, eh? This tasting already includes a few of my favorite Irish drams and some that are absolute classics, as well as a few fun (and new) oddball gems! Let’s see if we can’t get something really cool added to it! Tell your friends, tell your family, your whiskey-loving buddies, etc, and sign up to come on down and see us.
