So, so excited to have practically stolen two cases of this. For those of you who haven’t heard of Franciacorta, you’re not alone. Franciacorta (frahn cha COR tah) is definitely worth checking out, however…it’s sort of like Italy’s answer to Champagne, and hails from the region of Lombardy in the north-central part of Italy. Made from a combination of Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco, and Pinot Nero, the best examples of these wines (refermented in the bottle, just like Champagne) can easily rival their French counterparts. Unlike Prosecco, however, these Italian sparklers typically carry a hefty price-tag, usually in the $40-45 range for a bottle. But that’s why you love us, right? We find the deals!! Check this out!

NV Barone Pizzini Franciacorta “Animante” Extra Brut-The Pizzini estate is under the ownership of Società Agricola per Azioni, who have a total of 118 acres under vine. Crafted from a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Nero, and Pinot Bianco, and aged for six months in stainless prior to bottling, before aging an additional 18-30 months in the bottle. This stuff is serious and dosage is a minimal 2-3 g/L. Oh, and check out the press!!

“Enticing scents of smoke, bread crust, citrus and yellow orchard fruit carry over to the vibrant, elegant palate, along with pear, mineral and orange zest. The silky perlage lends finesse while bright acidity lifts the rich flavors.” 93pts “Editors’ Choice” Wine Enthusiast
This is on the shelf in our sparkling section, but it will look a bit different than the picture above…bottles are wrapped in that faaaancy tissue paper! I haven’t gotten to the best part yet…this usually goes for (like a lot of other Franciacorta sparklers) for around $40 or so. But the vendor needed to make a deal and move some wine from this producer so we got a scorching bargain. We could only get two cases, so get it while it’s here, and see what’s so special about this lesser-known Italian wine region!
