Here’s a fun tasting set that includes some of Diageo’s most famous (and tastiest!) malts situated inside a handsome, flip-top gift box/carrying case. Each set contains three (200ml) bottles, including one each of the following: Lagavulin 16yr, Talisker 10yr, and Cragganmore 12yr. Check ’em out!
Lagavulin 16yr-Huge, rich, and smoky, the Lagavulin 16 really sets the bar for bold, full-flavored Islay whiskey. Incredibly rich and powerful, yet rounded. There are a lot of peated Islay malts, but there’s only one Lagavulin.
Talisker 10yr-Tally is one of my all-time favorites and, in my opinion, a sort of ‘quintessential’ Island malt. Beautiful but balanced peat smokiness, reminiscent of smoked fish and a a bonfire on a rocky, windswept shore, with hints of citrus and a tang of sea salt. Smoky yet elegant, yet with a romantic wildness that’s sublime.
Cragganmore 12yr-The Cragganmore 12 represents Speyside in this pack, though unlike many Speysiders it does have a light smoky edge to it (the peat character is much lighter than the other two whiskies in the set, however). A unique set of stills and the use of worm-tub condensers creates a thick, chewy spirit, and it gains additonal richness and fruit from Sherry-cask aging.
